who will buy BEA, Oracle or HP?

August 14th, 2007

IT industry changed dramatically.  BEA is going to be the next company sold to Oracle or HP.

Oracle already bought PeopleSoft, now Hyperion, if Larry could have BEA, that would not a big surprise to  Wall Street.

Because it’s following the same trends it bought peoplesoft.

Oracle’s  own application  server  (start from 9iAS) never became the mainstream in the market, while BEA had strong innovation and marketing leader. (vs IBM’s websphere).  So this time, it will be the same policy for Oracle to strength it’s application server market by purchasing BEA.
HP actually already quit the app. server market, so there should be no much reason to acquire  BEA. HP basically already quit software market.

If Oracle could buy BEA, it would be the software giants in enterprise market. By this, it’s Oracle DB could sell more copy.

The strategy like Microsoft’s SQL Server, if you buy SMS or CRM from MS, you need to buy SQL Server.

In spite that Oracle’s new acquire don’t need Oracle DB in essence. But Oracle could make it a must.

On the other side,  Oracle is too strong, it will be beat by itself.

The open sources DB/App/ERP servers will be developed in a more mature way and entry into more mature market.

MySQL/Postgre/Tomcat/JBoss will replace more commercial licensed software in enterprise.
